Commander Clash S4 Episode 2: Card Type Tribal

Hello and welcome to Commander Clash, a video series where several MTGGoldfish contributors battle in a four player Commander game for fun and bragging rights. I love weeks with heavy deckbuilding restrictions, and this week is one of the most restrictive: we're doing Card Type Tribal! Each of us built a deck where every nonland card in the 99 must all share a card type. Here's what we've got:

With every deck restricted to playing only one card type, we'll need to be creative on how to fill in the gaps of our decks. Let's see what we came up with! But first, a quick reminder: if you like Commander Clash and other video content here on MTGGoldfish, make sure to subscribe to the MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel to keep up with the latest and greatest.

Post-Game Thoughts

The most unorthodox and impressive list from this week was certainly Richard's Titania, Protector of Argoth list. I would've thought that anyone restricted to just Instants would be playing Blue/Red/Black with Talrand, Sky Summoner, Mizzix of the Izmagnus, or even Toshiro Umezawa. Richard surprised and delighted us with a sweet Mono Green Instants list full of cards I never knew existed. The heart of any Titania list are the lands, which Richard had access to, and then smartly supported with choice instants. The only thing the deck lacks at a glance is card draw, but it worked out fine.

I personally enjoyed my list even if it didn't end up doing much. It had plenty of ramp / card draw / interaction, I could steal any planeswalker / creature with cards like Confiscate, I had all the Hondens, Chromanticore, fun spells like Mind's Dilation and Hedonist's Trove, Luminarch Ascension and Sigil of the Empty Throne to make an army of angels, a bunch of good things going on. I just didn't have as fast a start as the other decks and ate a good deal of enchantment removal. I think on average this deck would perform better, hitting one or two of my plentiful ramp cards early and maybe not eating so much removal so I can properly set up. I also could've played meaner cards, like locking out planeswalkers with Manabarbs and destroying creatures with Tainted Aether, but I just played hardcore mean Child of Alara deck last episode and wanted to tone it down.

Next Week: Halloween Special!

Darkness falls across the land, the midnight hour is close at hand, and that means it's time for another Halloween Special! Spooky Skeletons are sprinting to battle with extra spooky Lightning Greaves and other super flavorful cards for the holiday! As always, we love to hear from you guys! Tell us what you like to see, what you don't like, any ideas that we can put forward for future videos, or anything else you'd like to tell us!
