This Week in Legacy: Eternal Weekend Asia 2025 Legacy Champs
Howdy folks! It's time yet again for another edition of This Week in Legacy! I'm your host, Joe Dyer, and this week we're going to be taking a look at the Eternal Weekend Asia 2025 Legacy Championships from over the weekend. In addition to that we've got Challenges from last week and the Showcase Qualifier as well.
Without further ado, let's dive right in!
Eternal Weekend Asia 2025 Legacy Championships
Eternal Weekend Asia took place this past weekend, and with it came our final Eternal Weekend event of 2025! Hosted by Hareruya at PACIFICO Yokohama. This event had 676 players overall, making it the least attended event out of the three major Eternal Weekend events. This is still an incredible event and marks our second large event since the banning of Entomb and Nadu.
You can find all the decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Dimir Tempo was the most played deck of the entire event, but not by a lot over Izzet Tempo. Both decks did very well it looks like, as did Doomsday and Affinity Stompy. Other popular decks included Omni, Sneak and Show, and Blue Post.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | Player Name |
|---|---|---|
| Izzet Tempo | 1st | Yuji Ichimura |
| Cradle Control | 2nd | AcrowBya |
| Affinity Stompy | 3rd | Yuya Nakamura |
| Azorius Stoneblade | 4th | Yuta Yanagisawa |
| Dimir Tempo | 5th | Tsz Kin Ho |
| Dimir Tempo | 6th | Tom Hertfelder |
| Dimir Tempo | 7th | KosukeOsano |
| Sneak and Show | 8th | katsuhiro mori |
Quite a bit of Tempo in this event, and the winner of the event was Yuji Ichimura on Izzet Tempo.

This is an extremely solid looking list here. I love the addition of Stock Up as a two-of here. It's super strong and lets the deck refill quite a bit. I also love the singleton Unholy Heat. Just an absolutely strong Delver list here and some solid gameplay by Yuji.
In Second Place we had Cradle Control by AcrowBya.

I love how this list looks. Icetill Explorer is really solid at the top end, but really the star of the show in this deck lately has been Badgermole Cub. That card is absolutely incredibly powerful. Also, check out that Alpha Deathclaw hiding out in the sideboard. SWEET.
Legacy Challenge 32 12/10/2025
The first Challenge event of the weekend was the Wednesday event. This event had 57 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

The most played deck of the event was actually Omni-Tell, but its win rate was pretty poor. Eldrazi looked good, as did Dimir Tempo.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Mono Black Reanimator | 1st | Roodslay |
| Red Stompy | 2nd | Marhar |
| Dimir Tempo | 3rd | parkss |
| Doomsday | 4th | DrPP |
| Affinity Stompy | 5th | Thebigempty92 |
| Sneak and Show | 6th | JPA93 |
| Eldrazi | 7th | karatedom |
| Mardu Energy | 8th | Mav40121 |
Very interesting Top 8. Fair bit of Combo. At the end of the event it was Mono Black Reanimator that won.

Sire of Insanity coming back? Is this a sign that Reanimator has officially healed?
In Second Place we had Red Stompy.

This deck becoming a full on Saga deck thanks to a rules change still is amazing to me.
Legacy Challenge 32 12/12/2025
The second Challenge event of the weekend was the Friday event. This event had 45 players in it thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Both Omni and Oops were the most-played decks. Omni did very well, while Oops did not have a great time. Eldrazi and Mono Black Reanimator did pretty great, too.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Omni-Tell | 1st | _Batutinha_ |
| Izzet Tempo | 2nd | PekkaChu |
| Mono Black Reanimator | 3rd | Roodslay |
| Eldrazi | 4th | Statuskrow |
| Red Stompy | 5th | Marghar |
| Eldrazi | 6th | _Chamytinho_ |
| Mono Black Reanimator | 7th | Magic_Dads71522 |
| Dimir Tempo | 8th | Ozymandias17 |
Lot of Stompy decks, Tempo, and Reanimator. At the end of the event, it was Omni-Tell that won.

This is a pretty solid stock-looking Omni list now. Stock Up is pretty powerful and continues to make these decks look very good.
In Second Place, we had Izzet Tempo.

Singleton Tamiyo is cool. The two copies of Predict are pretty spicy. No Cori-Steel Cutter is an interesting decision, but it makes sense when you're on full 4 Delver.
Legacy Challenge 32 12/13/2025
The third Challenge event of the weekend was the Saturday event. This event had 39 players in it, thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Dimir Tempo was the most played deck, and its win rate was pretty good. D&T looked great here, as did Oops. Izzet Tempo seemed to suffer here.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Lands | 1st | tr4Xos |
| Dimir Tempo | 2nd | Ark4n |
| Mystic Forge Combo | 3rd | e0068 |
| Sneak and Show | 4th | JPA93 |
| Death and Taxes - BW (Yorion) | 5th | olbeda |
| Saga Storm | 6th | wumbowizard |
| Jeskai Control | 7th | jankyb |
| Eldrazi | 8th | peposhi |
This is a pretty reasonable Top 8. At the end of the event, it was Lands that won.

Solid-looking list. I like the main deck Plows quite a bit right now. Walk-In Closet // Forgotten Cellar is also a pretty sweet card.
In Second Place, we had Dimir Tempo.

Main deck pair of Stock Up is kind of cool. Being able to not run out of gas is pretty cool. The sideboard here is sweet and has a good variety of cards for a wide range of situations which is sweet.
Legacy Challenge 32 12/14/2025 - 1
The fourth Challenge event of the weekend was the first Sunday event. This event had 44 players in it, thanks to the MTGO website.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Oops was the most played deck, but its overall win rate was just below 50%. Dimir Tempo looked good, as did Izzet Tempo.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Izzet Tempo | 1st | azmyk1231 |
| Dimir Reanimator | 2nd | Ailien02 |
| Stiflenought | 3rd | Qweerios |
| Esper Control | 4th | harmonywoods |
| Izzet Tempo | 5th | SkysTheLimit |
| Dimir Tempo | 6th | PekkaChu |
| Doomsday | 7th | HJ_Kaiser |
| Omni-Tell | 8th | Srogers90 |
Fair bit of Tempo here, and at the end of the event, it was Izzet Tempo that won.

Very interesting split of having both Questing Druid and a pair of Cori-Steel Cutter. I like it.
In Second Place, we had Dimir Reanimator.

Katara, Waterbending Master seems like a really groovy card here. Being able to pitch cards off of it is really neat.
Legacy Challenge 32 12/14/2025 - 2
The final Challenge event of the weekend was the second Sunday event. This event had 72 players in it thanks to the MTGO website. There was no data for this event.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Cradle Control | 1st | runkor |
| Oops! All Spells | 2nd | NattaZan79 |
| Displacer Kitten Combo | 3rd | NathanOfTheGiltLeaf |
| Affinity Stompy | 4th | HyuugaHeir |
| LED Dredge | 5th | MahfuzVanGogh |
| Esper Vial | 6th | hundinggjornersen |
| Dimir Tempo | 7th | Ark4n |
| Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) | 8th | Harry1232 |
This is a super diverse-looking Top 8. At the end of the event, it was Cradle Control that won.

Badgermole Cub is a super sweet card in this deck. Being able to boost your mana dorks is very good in multiples, and then being able to leverage Earthbending for its power is very good.
In Second Place, we had Oops.

The sideboard plan of just boarding into Belcher is really silly, but I love it.
Legacy Showcase Qualifier 12/14/2025
This past weekend was also the end of the Premier Play season with the Legacy Showcase Qualifier. This is an invitation-only event that is entered by doing well in Top 8s of Showcase Challenges as well as winning Last Chance Qualifiers. There was 28 players in this particular event. Because of the invitation-only nature, the metagame for these tends to be a little inbred as it naturally draws in deck specialists and generically strong players.
You can find the Top 32 decklists for this event here and the data sheet here.

Izzet Tempo was the most played deck, and despite a Top 8 its overall win rate wasn't great. Beans did very well as a single pilot.
Let's take a look at the Top 8.
| Deck Name | Placing | MTGO Username |
|---|---|---|
| Beanstalk Control (Non-Yorion) | 1st | claudioh |
| Dimir Tempo | 2nd | _INF_ |
| Cradle Control | 3rd | kasa |
| Izzet Tempo | 4th | Preparation |
| Eldrazi | 5th | Bullz0Eye |
| Omni-Tell | 6th | JUJUBEAN__2004 |
| Oops! All Spells | 7th | Comrade1312 |
| Dimir Reanimator | 8th | burrarun |
Pretty cool Top 8. At the end of the event, it was Beans that won.

Quantum Riddler and Beanstalk is a bonkers combination, not going to lie. It really is very gross to get a two mana 4/6 flier that also draws you at bare minimum two cards with a single Beans and just it. The Phelia versions of these even allow you to get an extra card out of the deal and keep the Riddler around.
In Second Place, we had Dimir Tempo.

Fairly straightforward list. I do like the main deck Snuff Out. Seems quite good right now.

Displacer Kitten!

This Yorion Oops deck WENT 10-3-1! WHAT?

Thought Lash Combo is sweet.

Shoutout to Nic Fit going 6-5.
