Commander Clash S11 E2: Historic Brawl Commander

Finally, after years of requests from the playerbase, Wizards is adding a permanent Historic Brawl queue to Magic Arena. To celebrate the crew is playing Historic Brawl Commander this week, building decks with the Historic Brawl card pool, but playing by Commander rules (since multiplayer Historic Brawl isn't supported on Magic Online or on Magic Arena). While the format should look a lot like Historic Brawl, there are a few key differences: players start at 40 life rather than 30 life in Historic Brawl, we can't use planeswalker as commanders, there is commander damage, and we need to abide by both the Historic Brawl and Commanded banned list (which is mostly just the same as the Historic Brawl banned list, with the one exception being Paradox Engine which is banned in Commander but not in Historic Brawl). What did the crew bring to battle?

  • Crim shocks the table by playing a Mono-Red deck lead by Torbran, Thane of Red Fell
  • Richard sees if one of his favorite tribes - Birds - can work with the Historic card pool with a deck lead by Inniaz, the Gale Force
  • Seth tries looks to draw cards with the new Jumpstart: Historic Horizons legend Sythis, Harvest's Hand in a deck full of enchantments
  • Philipp flexes his Historic Brawl chops by playing one of his most well known brews: Jodah's WTF Machine lead, of course, by Jodah, Archmage Eternal
