Unsurprisingly, all of the biggest financial new of the week comes from Modern, the featured format for this weekend's Pro Tour Oath of the Gatewatch. The tournament was dominated by various Eldrazi decks, highlighted by six (including three different builds) in the top eight. As such, this week's finance update will focus exclusively on our new alien overlords.

Oddly, the biggest winner were the smallest Eldrazi: Endless One and Eldrazi Mimic, which were featured in all the different builds of Eldrazi, shot through the roof, jumping about 500 percent each. Eldrazi Mimic is currently at $8.50 and Endless One at $5.50. I've spent a bit of time studying Pro Tour related price spikes, and I can tell you that typically these huge jumps are short lived and prices will normalize over the next couple week or months. This idea is backed up by the fact that both of these cards (as well as the other heavily played Eldrazi) are still in-print, so prices can't get too out of control because people will start cracking boxes.

The fun doesn't stop with Endless One and Eldrazi Mimic; pretty much any Eldrazi or even anything related to Eldrazi has gone crazy. Drowner of Hope (up 442 percent to $1.79), Reality Smasher (up 33 percent to $7.99), and Eye of Ugin (up to $50) all increased significantly, along with Chalice of the Void (up 200 percent to about $55) and Simian Spirit Guide (up 282 percent to nearly $22) which were also feature in the ChannelFireball build of the deck.

The most important question is, where do we go from here? First off, it seems very against the odds that Eldrazi will still be in the format a year from now at the next Modern Pro Tour. Something (likely Eye of Ugin and/or Eldrazi Temple) could get banned as soon as April depending on how the next two months of GP and SCG results shake out. As such, I wouldn't make owning these cards part of my long-term strategy.

If you really want to play the deck, I would try to hold off a couple weeks before buying the pieces. While Eldrazi Mimic, Endless One, Matter Reshaper and Reality Smasher aren't going to be a bulk rares ever again, they will likely be cheaper than right now, since at the moment it's the Pro Tour hype that's driving up the price. On the other hand, if you're not interested in playing the deck and you have some of these cards in your collection, I would look to sell or trade them as soon as possible. They will never be hotter than they are right now and you save yourself the headache of dealing with the eventual banning of the deck, whether it happens in two months or two years.
