Finance Update w/ Saffron Olive |
|
This week in Magic finance the biggest Standard-legal gainer was Lumra, Bellow of the Woods, which has found itself as an unlikely Pioneer staple in a weird Simic Scapeshift deck, which led to it shooting up 43% to $30. Toss in some Commander play with new Edge of Eternities land sacrifice legends and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Lumra remain expensive.
Meanwhile in Commander, the Saviors of Kamigawa common Oboro Breezecaller nearly doubled up to over $2 this week. The two-drop has recently become a combo piece in cEDH, where it generates infinite mana and lets you phase out all other creatures with the help of Gaea's Cradle and Talon Gates of Madara. While $2 isn't a ton, at this point it is at least worth pulling Breezecallers from your bulk.
Finally, in weird Kamigawa news, Masako the Humorless is up to $35 after being around $5 just last month. Exactly why, I'm not sure. The ability to block with tapped creatures works well with the station mechanic from Edge of Eternities, but according to EDHRec no one actually plays the card, with it showing up in just 0.18% of decks. This once again seems to be a case of a 20+ year-old card that has never been reprinted becoming absurdly expensive, mostly due to the lack of supply. At this point, I'm more or less convinced that buying basically any cheap, old rare with no reprints is probably a smart financial move—it seems like every other week we're talking about some random old rare spiking to absurd levels.
