Much Abrew: You Can Never Cast a Spell or Attack Again | Scepter Chant | Modern

Hello everyone and welcome back to another edition of Much Abrew About Nothing. Today we're playing a deck that is near and dear to my heart: Scepter Chant. The goal of Scepter Chant is to get an Orim's Chant under an Isochron Scepter so we can cast Orim's Chant on our opponent's upkeep every turn to keep them from playing spells or attacking. This basically makes it so our opponent can only play instants. If we add Teferi, Time Raveler to the mix we can make it so our opponent can't play instants either, which is almost a hard lock. The final piece of the puzzle (at least in some matchups) is Pithing Needle to shut down channel lands, which are the one thing that can break through the Teferi version of the lock. At this point we just sit back and wait for our opponent to give up, but if we need to actually win the game we can use Karn, the Great Creator to get Elixir of Immortality from our sideboard so shuffle our graveyard back into our library so we can never lose to milling out! And that's the plan of our deck today, can it work in 2024 Modern? Check out the video to find out!

So why do I love Scepter Chant so much? It's not just that it's a hard lock prison deck. Story time! When I started playing Magic back in 2005 the first deck I built was a super casual charge counter deck full of original Mirrodin block cards. One of the friends that taught me to play was a much more experienced and competitive player and he had a full tier Extended Scepter Chant deck. I spent weeks bashing my charge counter deck into the lock, losing time and time again, getting more frustrated as time went by. After what felt like infinite losses, I finally figured out that I could add Shatter to my deck to blow up Isochron Scepter at instant speed to break out of the lock and actually won with the charge counter deck! Of course, the next day my friend broke out a Stasis deck and the process started over, but I was hooked!
