This or That Magic: Pirates or Ninjas?

Welcome to the seventh episode of This or That Magic, the series where we answer life's most important questions the best way we know how: with a game of Magic! This week Tomer is back to help Seth answer the age old question Pirates or Ninjas? Tomer will be representing the Pirate side of the battlefield, featuring a new leader in the sky pirate Keri Zev, Skyship Raider from Aether Revolt, while Seth will be digging through Kamagawa to find some Ninjas. Will the Pirates loot their way to victory, will with the Ninjas use their speed and cunning to assassinate their foe? Let's see!

So there you have it. If you ever have to choose a side in the inevitable future Pirates vs Ninjas war, you should choose the Ninjas! While the match ended up being 2-0, it actually felt pretty close. While the Ninjas were more powerful in a vacuum, the Pirates had a ton of looting effects to help dig through their deck to find the best cards. Flavorwise, I thought Tomer's "rum" justification was solid and the endless looting added a ton of flavor. On the other hand, building the Ninjas deck was tough. There are only a handful of actual Ninjas in Magic and it was difficult to find support cards because most of the "things related to Ninjas" research I did brought me to Japanese terms that haven't yet found their way into Magic. Anyway, what do you think, who deserves the flavor win this week: Tomer's Pirates or Seth's Ninjas?

Conclusion

Anyway, that's all for today. As always, leave your thoughts, ideas, opinions, and suggestions in the comments. We'll be back in a couple of weeks with another episode. Until then you can reach me on Twitter @SaffronOlive (and Tomer @BudgetCommander), or at SaffronOlive@MTGGoldfish.com.
