Possibility Storm #8: Rivals of Ixalan

Hello Puzzlers! This week we have the last uncommon of the season. We have often talked about focusing on one rule or card in uncommons. In this puzzle we do focus on one thing, but we use it multiple times. Holding priory. Holding priority is a simple concept that comes with a lot of rules baggage. We normally think of magic in terms of action reaction rereaction. But in reality we can do as many things as we like with out being interrupted, and then we pass priority over to the opponent before things start resolving. This is the heart of the solution here.

These puzzles are free to play, but if you like to challenge yourself or others, then you can get early access over here. Each puzzle has a unique solution, but if you find a better one that our crack staff of puzzle analysts missed, you can reach us here or on Twitter @mtgpuzzles.

The Solution

  1.  Cast Golden Demise, using the treasure. Hold priority.
  2. With Golden Demise still on the stack, cast Reckless Rage targeting the opponent's Sun-Crowned Hunters and any of your creatures. Hold priority again.
  3. With both other spells still on the stack. cast Fling, sacrificing your Grim Strider and targeting your opponent. It will (very briefly!) be a 5/5, so Fling will deal 5 lethal damage to your opponent, and you win before the other effects resolve.
