Playtest: Battle for Zendikar Event Deck

We all know the Battle for Zendikar Event Deck is stuffed with value. There's Standard (and even Modern) staples like Hangarback Walker, Tasigur, the Golden Fang, and Warden of the First Tree. But how does it actually play? That's the question we are going to answer today. While we've been doing playtest videos for quite a while now, this time around we are changing things up a bit.

First, Richard and I are going to battle the Battle for Zendikar Event Deck against the combined Magic Origins Clash Pack. Afterwards, I'll upgrade the Event Deck in a Budget Magic article. That way, instead of watching the upgraded Battle for Zendikar Event Deck against another budget deck, you'll see how it holds up against "real" Standard decks. So let's get to the videos. And a quick reminder; if you are looking for more video content, make sure to subscribe to the Official MTGGoldfish Youtube Channel for all the latest and greatest.

As a reminder, here are the contents of the Battle for Zendikar Event Deck:

Conclusion

As I mentioned in my discussion with Richard after the match, I really feel like this is the best Clash Pack and Event Deck Wizards has ever produced. Not only is the Battle for Zendikar Event Deck fun to play, but it's deceptively powerful and synergistic. Plus, you are getting over $40 worth of cards for less than $25. Just the Hangarback Walker makes up more than half of the deck's price. Honestly, you can't go wrong picking up a copy — or four for a playset of Hangarback Walker and Tasigur, the Golden Fang. As a result, I'm super excited to upgrade the deck and give it a whirl against some of the top tier decks of Standard. I think this one actually has a chance to be competitive. Be sure to come back on Monday for a special edition Budget Magic where we upgrade the Battle for Zendikar Event Deck into a super sweet GB Aristocrats deck.

You can find the Battle for Zendikar Event Deck on Amazon.com for $25.

Mono blue has so many different ways to play it, and this one is a return to the old annoying Mono U with cheap spells, evasive creatures, and a new creature that is also sort of ramp?
